Few hit and run drivers are caught
Just 63 drivers involved in a hit and run accident in 2011 ended up in court although around 1,100 people were injured in such incidents, the AD reports on Thursday.
People who drive off after an accident have 24 hours to report to a police station. If they fail to do so and are caught, they can be fined €7,800 and jailed for three months.
‘Without witnesses and number plates we can do nothing,’ police chief Ron Looijen told the paper.
