Election: employers, unions call for stability and a speedy coalition
The three main Dutch employers’ organisations issued a joint statement on Thursday morning welcoming the fact that ‘populism is on its way out’.
‘The result is a choice for a pro-European policy. We can have a stable coalition. That is good for Dutch industry and for our international position on which our economy so strongly depends,’ the statement said.
Jaap Smit, leader of the CNV trade union federation, said problems facing the country are too great for months of infighting about the coalition. The Netherlands needs a new cabinet quickly which will reform the jobs market to offer new perspectives to the Dutch economy, he told news agency ANP.
