Up to 57 Dutch people may be infected with the hanta virus after spending the night in a tent in the Yosemite National Park in California, the Dutch health institute RIVM said on Monday evening.

The hanta virus, named after the Hantan River in South Korea where it was first identified, is spread through contact with rodent excrement and can be fatal to humans.
The US centre for disease control told its Dutch sister organisation that at least six Americans who stayed in the park are infected, two of whom have died.
A clean-up operation is currently under way in the park.
