Armed forces offer €10,000 bonus to technicians who sign up

The armed forces are offering new soldiers with a technical background an extra payment of €10,000 if they agree to sign up for four years, the AD reports on Friday.

The army, navy and airforce are so short of technicians that the defence ministry has been forced to approve the extra cash, the paper says.
Even though the armed forces are shedding thousands of jobs, these are mainly office and support functions.
At the same time, the ministry needs 4,000 new recruits, of which 1,000 should be mechanics, builders and IT experts to make sure operational standards can be met, the paper said.
