The phone book may have had its day

A campaign by internet entrepreneur and journalist Alexander Klöpping to stop the paper phone book being automatically distributed to every household in the country has the support of a large number of MPs, Nos television reports.

Klöpping set up a special website sterftelefoongidssterf.nl (die telephone guide die) highlighting how people can register to stop the annual delivery. Instead, he says people should have to opt in if they want the physical book.
In current Dutch telecoms law, the company has to distribute the phone book to every household. However, MPs from six of the 10 parties in parliament say the law should now be changed.
