Socialists pull ahead of right-wing liberals in latest poll
The socialist party SP is pulling ahead of the right-wing liberal VVD, according to the latest poll from TNS Nipo on Wednesday.
The poll shows the SP on 37 seats if the general election was held today and the liberal VVD on 30. Last week the figures were 35 and 31 respectively.
In the current parliament, the SP has 15 seats and prime minister Mark Rutte’s VVD has 31.
Some way behind them comes a group of parties that are also neck-to-neck in the poll: The anti-islam PVV (18 seats), labour party PvdA (17), the Christian democrat CDA (16) and left-wing liberals D66 (14).
Green party GroenLinks are on 5 seats and the Christian orthodox ChristenUnie on 6.
New leaders
An interesting feature of this poll of 1,557 people is what has happened to the two parties with newly appointed leaders. The CDA, now led by Sybrand van Haersma Buma, has gained three seats in less than a month. Diederik Samsom has seen his PvdA lose three seats over the same period.
