Dutch rider Adelinde Cornelissen won the Olympic silver medal at the individual dressage final at Greenwich Park on Thursday afternoon, while the men’s hockey team beat the British team to go through to the final.

Cornelissen’s second place in the dressage came as a surprise to many. Her performance on Parzival was faultless, while British rider Charlotte Dujardin, who took the gold, made two small mistakes on her mount Valegro.
Stephen Clarke, president of the judges’ jury, told journalists afterwards: ‘We felt Charlotte’s performance had a softer touch. Adelinde gave a very powerful display, but Charlotte had better harmony and self-carriage and these were the qualities we decided to go on.’
The bronze medal went to the British rider Laura Bechtolsheimer.
Hockey
The Dutch men’s hockey team demolished the Great Britain team 9-2 at the Riverbank Arena on Thursday afternoon to win a place in the final on Saturday against defending champions Germany.
The Netherlands are currently 13th in the medals table with five gold, five silver and six bronze.
