A number of Dutch railway (NS) workers have been suspended recently for helping keep the trains running or helping passengers, reports the Telegraaf.

A breakdown engineer is on paid leave after he walked along the track to rescue an injured swan which had brought the trains at Amsterdam Centraal station to a standstill.
Two platform supervisors were suspended for helping a mother with a pram. When she became stuck in the train doors, they alerted the driver so he would not pull away from the platform.
Their manager told them they should have gone to the mother, but because the train doors automatically reopen if they are blocked, she was in no danger so long as the train remained stationary.
All three workers are the subject of a safety investigation.
‘The NS goes on about the professionalism of its workers, but when they show their initiative they are investigated,’ Wim Eilert of the railway union told the Telegraaf. ‘Ridiculous.’
