Divided FNV rules out social accord with employers

The FNV trade union federation is in no position to hold talks on a new social agreement with employers because it is in too much chaos internally, interim chairman Ton Heerts told the NRC at the weekend.

‘For a large part, the FNV no longer exists,’ Heerts is quoted as saying, adding that he did not know if the situation would ever right itself.
The country’s largest union federation fell apart earlier this year following a leadership battle and disputes over pension reform. An ambitious plan to revamp and rename the organisation, which has 19 member unions, further divided members.
The 19 unions, including the massive and highly critical general workers union Bondgenoten, are due to meet on Monday to discuss how to end the dispute.
