Olympics: Van Rijsselberghe starts well, hockey women uninspiring
Windsurfer Dorian van Rijsselberghe made a flying start off the coast of Weymouth on Tuesday in his quest for Olympic gold.
The 23-year-old, who carried the Dutch flag at the opening ceremony in London, won his first two heats to take top position in the RS:X class.
Heats three and four are on Wednesday.
Hockey
The women’s field hockey team began well in their second match in the group phase against Japan. But in the second half they allowed the Japanese back into the game and the final score was 3-2.
With two wins, the Dutch women are top of their group. The next match is on Thursday against China.
Other news
The women’s rowing eight reached the final on the lake at Eton Dorney, beating Romania, Australia, Great Britain and Germany in the process. The final is on Thursday.
Swimmer Sebastiaan Verschuren is through to the final of the 100 metre freestyle, coming in third. It makes up for the disappointment of missing out on the final of the 200 metre freestyle.
