NS service performance monitor misses key elements: RTL
The way Dutch Rail (NS) self-assesses its performance is lacking in several key areas, according to RTL news
Research by the transport ministry, which has not been sent to parliament, shows some key parts of the NS service are left out of the performance monitor. The results of the monitor are used to determine whether the government should fine the NS for not meeting proper standards.
While punctuality, information provision and the cleanliness of trains is part of the appraisal, the cleanliness of train toilets and stations themselves is not, RTL says.
In addition, there is criticism of the fact the NS assesses its own performance, rather than an independent body, RTL said.
The broadcaster says the transport ministry has written to the NS urging it to be more transparent about self-assessment. However, the minister is not in favour of setting up an independent body to monitor railway services because it would be too bureaucratic.
