The PVV in Noord Holland is now four separate parties
The two Noord Holland provincial councillors who quit the PVV alongside Hero Brinkman earlier this year, have now decided to go it alone themselves, press reports say.
Brinkman left the anti-immigration party saying its leader, Gert Wilders, was not democratic enough in his dealings with members. He set up his own party under the name OBP (independent citizens’ party).
Originally he took three fellow PVV members from the regional council of the province of Noord-Holland with him. When one member left the regional council, his replacement began his own party.
Now the remaining two, Gerton van Unnik and Monica Nunes say they, too, are leaving to start their own party. This means what was once the PVV grouping in the province has now broken up into four separate parties.
It is not clear how their departure will affect the OBP’s recent agreement with Trots op Nederland, the populist party created by Rita Verdonk. The two parties had agreed to join forces to fight the September general election.
