The Netherlands near bottom of WNF clean energy tech ranking
The Netherlands has dropped three places to 21st out of 25 in the latest relative clean energy technology ranking drawn up by the World Nature Fund.
The WNF looked at investment in such areas as wind turbines, solar panels, solar cells and electronics in 25 important economies.
It concluded that while the Netherlands has a great deal of know-how in all these areas, it is not turning this knowledge into hard cash, reports Trouw. In the last report, the Netherlands was in 18th place.
There is a growing global demand for clean energy but in 2011 the Netherlands’ turnover in this industry dropped 14% to €1.2bn, says the WNF.
Clean energy such as the construction of wind turbines and systems for energy saving brought in €200bn in 2011, says the WNF. The expectation is this will double over the next 10 years.
The ranking is topped by Denmark, followed by China and Germany.
