Labour party wants transparency on lobbying
Labour party PvdA is calling for more transparency on lobbying and wants all motions presented to parliament to state which lobbyists were involved, what their arguments were and who they represent.
‘We don’t just want to know someone has lobbied, but what interests were represented and whether they were listened to or not,’ PvdA MP Lea Bouwmeester told tv programme Nieuwsuur on Monday evening.
The party plans to bring a proposal on lobbying before parliament in the summer so transparency is the rule for the new government after the September 12.
Left-wing liberals D66, green party GroenLinks and the socialist SP also want to know how lobbying influences political policy.
A recently published report by the government auditors said lobbyists are often better informed than MPs. The current and previous government have also been criticised for being too influenced by tobacco lobbyists.
