Whistle-blowers may get legal protection

MPs are likely on Monday to approve draft legislation which would set up an organisation to protect the rights of whistle-blowers – both in the public and private sector.

The body, which will become part of the national ombudsman organisation, will provide legal and financial help. The ombudsman will also be able to order an investigation into whistle-blowers’ claims.
The new law is an initiative from Socialist MP Ronald van Raak and is not supported by the minority coalition, Nos television says.
