Labour MP Nebahat Albayrak is latest to quit politics at election

Labour MP and former minister Nebahat Albayrak is leaving politics at the September election. ‘It is time to do other things,’ Albayrak told reporters on Thursday after announcing her decision.

Albayrak, who contested the Labour leadership earlier this year, was involved in developing the 2007 amnesty for asylum seekers and streamlining refugee procedures.
Albayrak is the latest in a string of political names to say they are quitting politics. Gerdi Verbeet, the parliamentary chairwoman, and acting CDA leader Maxime Verhagen are also leaving.
