A 2-0 home win against VVV-Venlo gave Amsterdam football club Ajax their 31st league title on Wednesday night.
Hundreds of fans celebrated the victory with fireworks on the city centre’s Leidseplein after the match was over and there were several arrests.
The win will be formally celebrated on Thursday night next to the Arena stadium where Ajax is based. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan decided to host the event outside the city centre because of the risk of crowd trouble.
Feyenoord of Rotterdam hung on to second place with a 4-1 win over Heracles and with one match still to play, is one point ahead of PSV Eindhoven.
