PVV MP Brinkman wants leadership vote, criticises anti-Pole website
The anti-immigration PVV has been criticised for setting up a website to collect complaints about central and eastern Europeans by one of its own MPs – Hero Brinkman.
In an internal email in the hands of broadcaster EenVandaag, Brinkman says the website has missed its target and is doing more harm than good. He also criticised the way the website was launched ‘with a four-line press release’ and said it showed a lack of vision.
‘If we want to be a trusted partner in the next cabinet, we have to show that we can deal with content and strategy,’ Brinkman wrote.
The MP has also renewed calls for more democracy within the PVV, which only has one member – its founder Geert Wilders. Brinkman suggested a leadership contest would also be in order and is a known supporter of setting up a youth wing.
Last week, the European parliament passed a motion calling on the Dutch government to distance itself from the website, which it said is ‘discriminatory and malicious’.
