Dozens of museums, castles and monuments received money on Monday night when the BankGiro lottery divided up €64m among 58 cultural organisations.

The BankGiro lottery, set up in 1951, has around 700,000 participants who have the chance of winning various amounts of money. Half of the money they pay in goes to cultural organisations.
During a gala evening at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the lottery announced it would be supporting technology museum Nemo and the Hermitage museum, both in Amsterdam, for five years with €200,000 and €300,000 per year respectively.
Among other organisations receiving a subsidy are the photography museum Foam and the Netherlands Photo Museum to set up an annual photo week, and the Rijksmuseum for an international sculpture exhibition in the gardens around its building.
