Women still lag behind in the pension stakes

Women are still lagging behind men when it comes to pensions although the difference is getting smaller, according to figures published on Tuesday by the national statistics office CBS.

Only 59% of women over 65 years of age receive a supplementary pension, compared with 92% of men. In addition, women who do receive a supplementary pension generally get half the amount of money given to men.
However, the gap is shrinking as the effect of more women entering the workforce filters through. In 2000 just 50% of 65-plus women received a supplementary pension.
