Tendering for new police guns must be done again: court
The police have been ordered to carry out a second search to find a new weapons supplier after a court in The Hague said the original process had been unfair.
The contract was won by Sig Sauer but after a technical problem with the gun emerged, justice minister Ivo Opstelten awarded the deal to Heckler & Koch, who came second.
Weapon makers Beretta and Walther went to court, arguing all the companies should have equal opportunity to win the contract after Sig Sauer was rejected. Opstelten had opted not to carry out a second process because of the cost and the length of time it would take.
The ministry will not appeal against the ruling because of it will take too long, a spokesman told news agency ANP.
