Airlines’ commercial interests are increasing the pressure of work on pilots, which could lead to an increase in unsafe situations, the Dutch pilots’ organisation VNV says in Monday’s Telegraaf.

According to new European guidelines, pilots can now be required to work for 11 hours at night, while experts say 10 hours is the maximum. And in the US, pilots cannot fly for more than nine hours at night, spokesman Evert van Zwol told the paper.
Not only is there an increased risk of accidents because pilots are tired, but the gap between flights has also been reduced, limiting rest time to a minimum, Van Zwol says.
