New European parliament chairman thinks Rutte is ‘cool’
The new chairman of the European parliament, German socialist Martin Schulz, thinks Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte is cool, Nos television reports.
Schulz, who took 387 of the 699 votes, got the job through a deal between the Christian Democrats and the Socialists.
Schulz is known as a passionate politician who once called PVV Euro MP Daniël van der Stoep a fascist, but says he will behave differently as parliamentary leader.
Cool
Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte is a good example, Nos television quoted him as saying. ‘I would like to be more cold-blooded, like Mark Rutte,’ he said.
The Dutch prime minister is ‘a cool man’. ‘He laughs in Geert Wilders’ face and still gets PVV support,’ Schulz said. The anti-Islam party has an agreement to back the minority coalition on economic policy.
Meanwhile, the PVV grouping in the European parliament is demanding Schulz apologise for the fascist remark.
