Internet firms to appeal on Pirate Bay ruling

As internet providers Ziggo and XS4All prepare to appeal against a court order to ban file sharing site The Pirate Bay, the website itself said the lobby group which brought the case is corrupt .

‘Listen up people of the Netherlands. Your internet is being censored,’ the website states, before describing authors’ right lobby group Stichting Brein as a ‘corrupt organisation’ which is ‘famous internationally for forging evidence in court cases’.
On Wednesday a Dutch court ruled the two internet firms should block The Pirate Bay within 10 days or face a fine of up to €250,000.

According to news agency ANP, the Dutch composers’ association Palm has now called on other ISPs, such as KPN and UPC, to respect the court’s decision.
‘But we would also ask them to structurally block all sites similar to The Pirate Bay,’ Palm chairman Hans Kosterman is quoted as saying. ‘This would make them a responsible and serious link in the entertainment product distribution chain, rather than a channel for stolen goods.’
Ziggo said on Thursday it would appeal against the court ruling because even though the company opposes illegal downloading, this is ‘the start of a slippery slope’. It is not the job of internet companies to act as a police force, Gradus Vos told website webwereld.nl.
