Foreign minister calls for probe into Syria journalist attacks
Foreign minister Uri Rosenthal on Thursday urged Syria to investigate the circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s attack which killed a French journalist and injured a Dutch one.
The journalists were part of a government-organised trip to the city of Homs when they were attacked.
Rosenthal said in a statement he is seriously concerned about the increasing violence in Syria, where more than 5,000 people have been killed since the unrest began last March, according to UN figures.
According to news agency ANP, the Dutch ambassador in Damascus has been in touch with the Dutch journalist, who was hit by a grenade.
Rosenthal said he holds the Syrian authorities responsible for the safety of international journalists.
