Dutch trucker wins Dakar Rally

Dutch trucker Gerard de Rooy followed in his father’s footsteps on Sunday by winning the truck event in this year’s Dakar Rally.

The desert race was moved from Africa to South America in 2009 because of the terrorist threat. This year it started in Argentina on January 1 and finished in Peru.
‘It’s wonderful. I can’t believe we already did it this year,’ De Rooy told Motorsport.com. ‘It’s all thanks to our teamwork.’
Gerard’s father Jan first took the title 25 years ago.
