Competion body rulings save the average household €36 a year
Action by the Dutch competition authority saved the average household €36 last year, the NMa said on Tuesday.
‘This figure comes from the wide range of activities we undertake every year, from stopping unfair competition at house auctions and regulating energy suppliers, to looking at mergers and acquisitions,’ said NMa chairman Chris Fonteijn. ‘These are cases which directly affect consumer interests.’
This means the watchdog benefits society by six times its cost, the NMa said in a statement.
Last year, the NMa levied nine fines totalling just over €50 for competition law infringments. It carried out 18 investigations, of which 10 resulted in a final report.
