Book chain Selexyz in talks with new financier

Troubled book shop chain Selexyz is in talks with a potential new partner, the Financieele Dagblad said on Friday.

At the end of last year, the FD reported that Selexyz is making a new round of cuts and freezing salaries because of the malaise in the book sector.
Despite good holiday season sales, ‘the decline in turnover appears to be structural,’ a letter to staff said at the end of December. ‘We need to find a new formula which we can operate with a cheaper HQ and shop organisation.’
The FD says one of Selexyz’ problems is that it was late in moving towards internet retailing and so lags behind its competitors.
The retail chain plans to give more details about its reorganisation and new backer in mid-March. The potential backer is said to be a new, unknown player.
