Astro mouse preserved for posterity

The mouse which was taped to a firework rocket during the New Year festivities and later died of its injuries is to be exhibited at the Fries Natuurmuseum in Leeuwarden, the Telegraaf reports.

The mouse, nicknamed Astro, is being stuffed and mounted for display and will be placed in a ‘triumphant position’, the museum says on its website.
Two 20-year-old youths from the Frisian village of Drachten were arrested for maltreating the mouse. Although they were caught before the rocket went up, the mouse suffered a burn wound and died last week. A second mouse managed to escape, according to the museum.
Astro, the firework mouse, is not the first animal victim to be preserved for posterity.
The Frisian museum is also home to the tennis ball sparrow, which was killed by a tennis ball in 1996. And a sparrow which was shot after it flew into an exhibition centre where millions of dominoes were being prepared for a record breaking attempt has also been stuffed.
