Ajax-AZ cup tie replay tickets reserved for the under-12s only

Children aged 12 and under will be the only supporters admitted to next week’s cup tie replay between Amsterdam’s Ajax and AZ of Alkmaar, the football association said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ajax had applied to allow women and children to watch the match, while there were also calls for gays to be admitted.
The KNVB ordered the match to be replayed behind closed doors. The original tie was abandoned after an Ajax supporter tried to attack AZ’s keeper.
‘In order to emphasise the educational character of the match,it has been decided to limit admittance to children,’ the KNVB said in a statement. Calls to admit women but not men would have fallen foul of equal opportunities legislation, the association said.
One adult per six children
The Arena stadium will offer free entry to school groups and sports clubs for the January 19 match. One adult per six children will be admitted in a supervisory capacity. Groups will have to register in advance.
Ajax plans to invite all primary schools within a 10 km radius of the capital to attend the match. Together with KNVB sponsor OAD, the club will pay for 40 buses to pick up the children and return them to their schools.
Ajax has also reached a deal with television channel Eredivisie Live that season ticket holders who had bought a ticket for the original match will be allowed to watch the replay free of charge. AZ has refunded its supporters.
