Weekend of football upsets as gap closes on AZ
Premier division leaders AZ of Alkmaar were thrashed 5-1 by Heerenveen in this weekend’s football action.
Amsterdam club Ajax recorded its first home win in four matches with a 4-1 win over 10-man Excelsior. The victory put Ajax into third place in the league, level on points with FC Twente that booked a 6-2 win over FC Utrecht.
Feyenoord had a 2-0 home win over title hopefuls PSV Eindhoven. PSV remains three points behind AZ, which has a match in hand.
