The Netherlands will have fewer under-25s in 2020

The Netherlands will have 4.8 million people under the age of 25 by 2020, down 2% on the current total, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday in a new survey on the younger generations.

The sharpest drop will be recorded in the southern province of Limburg where the young population will shrink by 7%, the CBS said. By contrast, in Flevoland the number of youngsters will rise by 5%.
Some 15% of children are currently growing up in a single parent family, the CBS said. Ten years ago the figure was one in 10.
