Polish workers boost economic growth: report
Polish workers generate €1.2bn for the treasury during their time in the Netherlands, according to research by the Dutch-Polish trade association, published on Wednesday by website Nu.nl.
Poles generate some 0.3 of a percentage point towards economic growth – or €1.8bn – the research, based on existing studies, shows.
In addition, the arrival of Polish workers can lead to extra jobs, the report said. This is because they largely fill low-skilled functions, freeing up others to do more highly-skilled work.
Earlier this year, local and national politicians called for action to curb the ‘tsunami’ of Polish and other Eastern European workers in the Netherlands. Social affairs minister Henk Kamp even called for jobless Poles to be deported, even though this is impossible under EU rules.
