New Year troublemakers to clean up their own neighbourhoods
Troublemakers arrested during the New Year celebrations will be put to work on January 1 to clean up glass and firework remains, chief public prosecutor Herman Bolhaar says in Tuesday’s Telegraaf.
The measure will be applied in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Breda, where fast-track courts operate to deal with the New Year disturbances. Ideally, those convicted should take part in the clean-up of the neighbourhood where they were caught, the legal chief said.
Sentencing demands for fireworks and other offences during the celebrations are also being increased, Bolhaar told the paper.
