Health insurance giant Achmea has taken a 77% stake in the insurance comparison website Independer. Financial details were not disclosed.

In a joint statement, the two companies said they aim to use their alliance to restore public faith in insurance and expect to be able to develop better customer-orientated products. Achmea will use information gathered by the Independer website to develop new products.
‘Independer.nl’s position as an objective comparison website for consumers is guaranteed and it will continue to provide a ‘level playing field’ for all insurers,’ the joint statement said.
The company has set up a board headed by Arther Docters van Leeuwen, former head of the financial services regulator AFM, to ‘safeguard the website’s objectivity and consumers’ privacy’.
