The forestry commission said on Tuesday it will cut down a greater number of trees than usual over the next five years.

Felling the trees will provide more space for new, young growth, says the commission. The sale of the wood will also bring in an extra €2m to €4m a year in a period in which the organisation is facing cuts of millions of euros.
There are 356,000 hectares of woods and forests in the Netherlands, of which the forestry commission manages 90,000 hectares, reports Trouw.
The commission is looking to harvest between 250,000 and 400,000 cubic metres of wood from the felled trees.
The wood is used for furniture, floors and window frames.
