Dutch activist to stay in Japanese jail
A Dutch environmental activist, arrested in Japan a week ago after trying to photograph dolphins being transported, has been remanded in custody for a further 10 days, the Dutch foreign ministry said on Tuesday, the Telegraaf reports.
Erwin Vermeulen is said to have pushed a dolphin hunter and has been held on physical abuse charges.
Vermeulen is a member of the Sea Shepherd organisation which campaigns against whaling.
