Book chain Selexyz reorganises again
The Selexyz book shop chain is making a new round of cuts and freezing salaries because of the malaise in the book sector, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Friday.
The paper bases its claims on a letter sent to all 600 workers just before the Christmas break. More clarity is expected in January but the chain is also looking for new financing, the paper says.
Despite good holiday season sales ‘the decline in turnover appears to be structural,’ the letter said. ‘We need to find a new formula which we can operate with a cheaper HQ and shop organisation.’
The FD says one of Selexyz’ problems is that it was late in moving towards internet retailing and so lags behind its competitors.
