Biggest FNV unions still oppose pension reform plan

General workers union Bondgenoten and civil service union Abvakabo are still opposed to the pension reform plan worked out by ministers, employers and unions and will continue to campaign against it, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday.

The FNV trade union federation decided at the weekend to break up and reform – a move which was partly prompted by the pension dispute.
However, until a new structure has been finalised, outgoing chairwoman Agnes Jongerius, who backs the pension reforms, will continue to represent the unions in discussions about dealing with the looming economic crisis, the paper said.
Talks
The position of the two dissidents is strong because they are involved in 90% of pay and conditions negotiations. Much of the fine-tuning of the new pension deal will take place at a sector-wide level.
‘We thought we had a central agreement about freezing pension premiums. But in practice, the two big unions are interpreting the deal differently at the negotiating table,’ Hans van der Steen, of the AWVN employers association, told the paper.
