Anger as Nos drops Sinterklaas tv show for former minister
Public broadcaster Nos angered thousands of families and children on Monday evening by cancelling the traditional Sinterklaas broadcast of kids television show Sesame Street in favour of former finance minister Wouter Bos answering questions on the 2008 financial crisis.
The show was dropped because of the ‘national importance’ of Bos’s appearance before the parliamentary commission investigating the crisis.
The show’s editor Ajé Boschhuizen told the NRC his team is furious. ‘It is a special broadcast involving a lot of time and money,’ he said. ‘I was waiting with my own children for the show – it took some explaining.’
Dozens of viewers took to the microblogging service Twitter to express their feelings, describing the Nos’ actions as scandalous.
One person pointed out that as Bos himself has three young children, it was mean to make him answer questions rather than allow him to be home with his family on the biggest family evening of the year.
