Ajax-AZ cup tie abandoned after fan attacks keeper

A Dutch Cup tie between Ajax of Amsterdam and premier league leaders AZ was halted on Wednesday night after a supporter tried to attack the AZ keeper.

Esteban Alvarado saw the man approaching in time, tripped him up and then kicked him twice as he lay on the ground. He was then given a red card and Alkmaar coach Gertjan Verbeek ordered his team to walk out in protest.
The referee told reporters later that players are not allowed to use violence in the stadium, hence the sending off.
Ajax was leading the match 1-0 when the incident happened. The 19-year-old who ran onto the pitch has been arrested.
There was then further trouble outside the Amsterdam Arena and some 10 supporters were arrested following charges by riot police.
