2011 is the third warmest since records began

This year is the joint third warmest since the KNMI started keeping records in 1901, the weather bureau said on Thursday.

With an average temperature of around 10.9 Celsius, 2011 is just behind 2006 and 2007, when the average temperature was 11.2 Celsius, the KNMI said.
The lowest temperature recorded this year was -8.5 Celsius in Noord-Brabant province on January 30. The highest was 34.5 Celsius in Eindhoven and Hupsel.
Despite the disappointing summer, spring and autumn sunshine made 2011 one of the sunniest on record as well, with 1840 hours of sunshine, compared with 1639 in a normal year.
