Police car contract under investigation

There is to be an independent investigation into the way a contract to supply 13,000 new police cars was awarded following claims the process was unfair, justice minister Ivo Opstelten said at the weekend.

A number of companies which missed out on the multi-million euro contract, told television current affairs show EenVandaag that the tender process was drawn up to favour the eventual winner and that they did not have proper access to information.
The contract eventually went to Pon, a Volkswagen import firm based in Amersfoort.
