Parents should have more say about daycare: minister
Parents should have a greater role in determining the quality of daycare for pre-school children, social affairs minister Henk Kamp told Radio 1 news on Friday.
In addition, it should be easier for parents to compare the prices and quality of different creche groups, the minister said. He is also setting up a grievance committee where parents can make complaints.
The result should be increased competition and a drop in waiting lists, the minster said.
Earlier this month, creche parents’ association Boink reported a drop in applications for places, due the rising cost. In total, the government is cutting €400m from spending on childcare next year.
Last year, some 822,000 pre-school children went into formal childcare.
