Dutch expats who take a second nationality while living abroad will still have to surrender their Dutch passports, a majority of MPs said on Tuesday, according to the Volkskrant.

Thousands of Dutch nationals had signed a petition calling on the government to make an exception in the new nationality law which would allow them to remain Dutch.
Many of them opt for a second nationality for practical reasons, the petition pointed out.
No exception
The ruling coalition of VVD and CDA, supported by the anti-Islam PVV and fundamentalist Christian SGP, on Tuesday voted against a motion which would have made an exception for Dutch expats.
The government wants to limit dual nationality and says people who become Dutch citizens should have to give up their original passports.
The draft legislation , which also makes it harder to become Dutch, is currently being assessed by the Council of State.
