Major literary prize for Van der Heijden
AFTh van der Heijden, one of the Netherlands’ foremost literary figures, has won the Constantijn Huygens Prize 2011.
The annual prize has been awarded for a writer’s complete works since 1947.
The 60-year-old Van der Heijden made his debut in 1978 and has written dozens of novels and short stories. His latest book, Tonio, was published earlier this year and is about his son who died last year.
Previous winners include Harry Mulisch, Helle Haasse and Cees Nooteboom.
