Holland ‘loses’ 65,000 people a year
The Netherlands ‘loses’ 65,000 people every year, according to figures released on Tuesday by the central statistics agency CBS.
The state loses track of them when they move council area and do not inform the authorities that they have left.
The CBS says most of them are young immigrants who go abroad without leaving a forwarding address. Half of them reappear two years later.
The number of people who ‘disappear’ each year has doubled over the past ten years, probably due to a general increase in mobility, says the CBS.
