Heavy fog set to continue into Tuesday, road and air traffic disrupted
The fog is expected to remain until Tuesday afternoon at least, weather forecasters said on Monday evening. And freezing temperatures in sheltered areas will lead to slippery conditions in the morning, weather forecasters said.
The fog, which has reduced visibility to 50m in some places, led to long traffic jams in Monday evening’s rush hour. The problems have been made worse because many rush hour lanes were closed because the cameras which operate them cannot work in the mist.
However, no serious accidents were reported, the Telegraaf said.
At Schiphol airport, dozens of flights have been cancelled or delayed and problems are expected to continue on Tuesday. Rotterdam and Eindhoven airports remain closed.
