Heavy fog hits most of the country
Motorists are being warned to be extra careful on the roads as fog continues to blanket much of the country.
Freezing temperatures in some places overnight may make the roads extra hazardous during Monday’s rush hour.
In some places visibility has been reduced to below 50 metres, the ANWB motoring organisation said. By 08.00, there were some 400 km of traffic jams, with the A9 and A7 particularly badly affected.
Dozens of flights have been cancelled at Schiphol airport because of the weather conditions and travellers are being urged to contact their airline for details. Rotterdam and Eindhoven airports are closed, the Telegraaf reported.
The fog is expected to continue for much of the day. Only the far south of the country has avoided the problem.
