FC Utrecht in financial trouble
Football club FC Utrecht made a loss of €9m last season, despite the sale of a number of players, football pundit Johan Derksen claimed on tv programme Voetbal International on Monday evening.
‘It’s only thanks to majority shareholder Frans van Seumeren that the club still exists,’ Derksen said.
The club earned €20m in transfer fees last season. Of this €4m went to management commissions and former clubs of transferred players and €16m to pay off old debts.
Derksen said former chairman Jan Willem van Dop is responsible for the financial mess.
